Biography
Sanford Schwartz, PhD joined the Social Work faculty at George Mason University in 2013 as an Adjunct Instructor. A graduate of the George Warren Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis, Professor Schwartz retired from Virginia Commonwealth University where he taught for 25 years. While at VCU, he was Principal Investigator of a 5-year Faculty Alcoholism Development Program grant from the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. In 1993, he was named Co-Director of the Virginia Governor's Institute on Alcohol and Other Drugs at VCU. Along with his colleague Wayne Thacker, Dr. Schwartz consulted for several years with the Virginia Department of Health, where their work culminated in the publication of Guidelines for Case Managers Working with Persons Living with HIV/AIDS. His scholarly interests include crime & delinquency, social welfare policy and planning, and organizational behavior.
