Mason Social Work Students Volunteer with Capital Caring

Capital Caring volunteers Marcus Andrews and Aryana Miller, both George Mason University social work majors, recently provided assistance to help a patient in our care find an important resource.

After Joyce Montgomery, social worker, learned that a patient wanted to donate her brain for research, Joyce asked the student-volunteers to find resources to fulfill the wishes of the patient and her family.

The students conducted a robust search to meet the needs of the patient and family members. They identified several brain donation programs, and the family registered their loved one within two days. Ilene Thorman, Merrifield volunteer coordinator, has added this resource to a database that is now shared throughout all Capital Caring neighborhoods.

Thanks to Marcus and Aryana for providing support, assistance and resources to our patients and families!
