George Mason Nursing Home Training Center

Nursing Home COVID-19 Network

Welcome to the George Mason Nursing Home Training Center, a member of the National Nursing Home COVID-19 Action Network, supported by the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) in collaboration with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and Project ECHO. The goal of this training program is to help keep COVID-19 from spreading in area nursing homes and to prepare and equip staff so they can better protect residents and themselves. This is an essential nationwide initiative in the fight against COVID-19.

Goals of the Program

  • Keep the virus out of nursing homes.
  • Find out early if residents and staff have been infected.
  • Prevent the spread of the virus between staff, residents, and visitors.
  • Provide safe, appropriate care to residents with mild and asymptomatic cases.
  • Ensure staff practice safety measures to protect residents and themselves.
  • Reduce social isolation for residents, families, and staff.

Eligibility

Participation is free and all Medicare- and Medicaid-eligible nursing homes in Virginia and Pennsylvania are invited to join the George Mason Nursing Home Training Center.

Benefits

By participating, your staff will have the opportunity to connect with experts in an interactive virtual learning community and ensure they have the most up-to-date best practices along with guidance to implement them. Joining our community will also provide your staff with increased knowledge of infection control and quality improvement and receive support of a network of peers and colleagues.

A $6,000 stipend is available for eligible nursing homes* that successfully complete the program.

*Only the nursing homes that were eligible to receive funding from the Provider Relief Fund (PRF) and who agree to the terms and conditions of the PRF are eligible to receive compensation for participation in this program.

Program Design

The Network embraces and “all teach, all learn” philosophy. Participants receive education in best practices from experts and learn from their peers. Each Network session is designed to be interactive – to hear from nursing home staff about the challenges they are facing and provide practical solutions. During each session, participating nursing home staff will discuss real cases of front-line problems. Participants will share best practices and learn from their peers while benefiting from the guidance of nursing home and quality improvement experts. Each session will include a brief lecture or lesson paired with case presentations and discussion, followed by a Q&A forum.
